Visa & Immigration
- All students intend to study in Malaysia need to apply for a Student Pass. The visa application and approval must be obtained before your arrival in Malaysia.
- It is mandatory for every international student to obtain a student pass to study in Malaysia as it is a requirement under the laws and regulations of the Government of Malaysia.
- Student Pass holders and their dependents will be issued with a Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) to facilitate their travel between Malaysia and their home country / third country during the duration of their study.
- MM2H Principal
- MM2H Dependent – Age 18 & above
- Resident Pass – Dependent
- Expatriate/Employment Visa (EPI, EP II, EP III, etc) – Dependent
- Diplomatic Visa – Dependent (if NOT under IMMMIGRATION (EXEMPTION) ORDER 1963)

“PERMISSION TO STUDY” REQUIREMENT
Stamp of “Permission to Study” is required to be obtained on the passport from Immigration of Malaysia for the following categories:
- MM2H Dependent – Applicant must be below 18 years old. 18 Years and above need to apply Student Pass.
- Diplomatic Visa – Principal/Dependent – IMMMIGRATION (EXEMPTION) ORDER 1963 – it’s advisable for attestation purposes.
- Expatriate Visa (EPI, EP II, EP III) – Principal (For Masters, or PHD – PT Courses only)
- Spouse Visa Long-term Visit Pass (Married to Malaysian Citizen)
- Employment Visa – Dependent – Husband/Wife & Children below 18 years old.
PRIVILEGES TO STUDENT PASS-HOLDER
- Dependant Pass
- Master and Ph.D. students are allowed to bring their dependents during their study period in Malaysia. (Dependants constitute spouse, children, mother, and father ONLY).
- Dependants of the Student Pass will be issued a Dependant Pass valid for 12 months according to the validity of the Student Pass of the principal.
- Children accompanying their parents MUST have individual or separate passports from their parents.
- Students must provide approval of marriage with a certified copy of their marriage certificate.
STUDENT VISA RENEWAL
- To submit the application at least 3 months before the student pass expiry date. The documents required are as follows:
- Passport copy (all pages)
- Payment
- Academic results (First semester until the latest semester).
- Approvals from respective programmes must be obtained (if applicable).
- All international students studying at public or private higher education institutions are allowed to work part-time for a maximum of 20 hours per week ONLY during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days at restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini markets and hotels as long as their student passes remain valid. Please note that prior approval from the Department of Immigration is required.
- International students are NOT permitted to work as cashiers. In addition, in the hotel sector, international students are NOT allowed to work as singers, masseurs, musicians or GROs (Guest Relation Officers). International students are not allowed to engage in any job or activity deemed to be immoral.
- Applications to work part time must be made through the educational institution at which the international students are enrolled. The international student needs to be present with the representative of the education institution at the Immigration Department of Malaysia to submit their application for part time work.

- Sufficient cash (Preferably US Dollar / Malaysian Ringgit – MYR) MYR can be obtained from the airport money changers.

- Yellow Fever Certificate if you are coming from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission or have stayed in transit within these countries for more than 12 hours

- Passport (which is valid for more than 12 months before expiry) with single entry endorsement (if applicable) and 3 Photocopies of Passport Biodata Details Page
- Original and 3 photocopies of Visa Approval Letter (VAL) (for countries that require visa to enter Malaysia)
- Original and 2 photocopies of signed Letter of Offer
- Original copy of Academic Qualification transcript. In addition to the actual transcript, please include the English translation if it is in a different language.
- Original copy of Health/Medical Examination Form, results and x-ray film
- Receipt/proof of payment for all fees
- Flight Ticket
- Driver’s License (if applicable)

- Students may visit the university in person for any inquiries or assistance.
- Insurance Coverage
- It is compulsory for every student entering Malaysia to have a medical insurance. All international students must be covered by a locally purchased medical health insurance scheme. You will be insured from the date you enter Malaysia. The insurance package provided meets the minimum coverage requirements set out by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
- Malaysian Bank Account Opening
- The documents are the original passport with a valid student pass, an EMGS approval letter, and a bank reference letter from the university.
- Student Day & Welcome Week
- All new international students are strongly encouraged to attend the university Student Day & Welcome Week. On the Student Day, you will be provided useful information regarding your studies at the university and living in Malaysia. You will also get to meet many new friends from various countries.
* Students are NOT encouraged to make any travel arrangements during the endorsement process by the Malaysian Immigration until you receive your passport with the student pass.
- Submission of your original academic results and certificates to the Admissions Office if applicable
- Submission of signed LOA (Letter of Acceptance) to the Admissions Office if applicable
- Submission of passport to the International Office for endorsement after the Reporting Session
- Complete the International Reporting Form and International Students Policies and Regulations Form
- Medical Health Screening (within three (3) days upon arrival)

Students are given seven (7) days to settle such matters, after which they must hand in their passports to the International Office for endorsement by the Immigration Department. - Students are advised not to make travel plans out of Malaysia during this time.
- Failure to hand in passports for endorsement may result in students overstaying their current visit passes or being classified as illegal immigrants by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
